Web for Interdisciplinary Research & Expertise
W.I.R.E. focuses on critical analyses of the present and future as the basis for long-term strategies and sustainable innovation. At the interface between theory and practice, the think tank formulates new ideas and approaches for successfully meeting the challenges of the future.
By addressing relevant technological, economic and social developments at an early stage, the partnership with W.I.R.E. builds on the "Next generation" concept of Julius Baer. The work of W.I.R.E. helps Julius Baer in identifying long-term, forward-looking investment opportunities that are also socially minded and ecologically responsible. The collaboration with W.I.R.E. supports Julius Baer particularly in its social commitment.
W.I.R.E. relies on an interdisciplinary approach because many of the key challenges of the future cannot be adequately addressed from the perspective of a single field. The research done through W.I.R.E. is focused on early detection of relevant trends, understanding interdependencies and assessing the ramifications of these long-term developments for the business, political and scientific spheres. The research of W.I.R.E. addresses six main subject areas that influence one another:
- Social innovation
- Health and the ageing society
- Globalisation, work and added value
- Urbanisation and urban development
In its work, W.I.R.E. applies a multidimensional model of sustainability that not only examines abstract developments, such as climate change and the unequal distribution of global wealth from a theoretical perspective, but also generates solutions that require business, government and citizens in general to take direct responsibility through social innovation.
W.I.R.E. publishes books and studies in cooperation with the publishing unit of Neue Zürcher Zeitung and Suhrkamp. The think tank's flagship publication is the award-winning book series entitled ABSTRAKT, in which thought leaders share ideas twice yearly about the key challenges of the future. W.I.R.E. also plans unusual events and idea workshops for Julius Baer and offers exclusive key note addresses as part of Julius Baer's Visionary Thinking Initiative. Moreover, W.I.R.E. advises management on long-term strategic matters and innovation.
W.I.R.E. was founded in 2007 and is one of the leading think tanks in Switzerland and Europe. In addition to Julius Baer, the think tank is also associated with the Collegium Helveticum, a joint project of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich that promotes interdisciplinary research and cross-discipline knowledge sharing. W.I.R.E. draws on a broad international network of experts and opinion leaders.
