Julius Baer Swiss E-Prix 2019: Formula E is coming to Berne
The Formula E racing series is coming to Berne in 2019! The municipal council of Berne approved a proposal to host a race, adding the Swiss capital to the 2018-2019 FIA Formula E Championship calendar. As the Global Partner of the FIA Formula E series since its launch in 2014, Julius Baer is proud to be title sponsor of the Swiss E-Prix, which is set to take place on 22 June 2019.
After thrilling spectators in Zurich this past June, the electric street racing series is moving to the Swiss capital in Berne. Known for its historic Old Town, surrounded by the Aare River and overlooked by the spectacular Bernese Alps, the city of Berne promises to deliver another unforgettable street racing experience with the Julius Baer Swiss E-Prix 2019.
As the setting for the historic Swiss Grand Prix races on the Bremgarten Circuit between the 1930’s and 1950’s – before a 63-year racing ban in Switzerland – Berne was destined host auto racing once again. In 2015, the Swiss government lifted the ban on electric racing, paving the way for the return of motorsport to Switzerland. With its mixture of entertainment, technology and innovation, Formula E is pushing the boundaries of traditional motorsport, and the Julius Baer Swiss E-Prix offers the Swiss public a first-hand look at exciting new technologies powering the future of mobility
With this race, Berne joins other iconic cities such as Hong Kong, Mexico City, Rome, Paris, Monaco, Berlin and New York (see race calendar). No fewer than 100,000 people are expected to attend the race.
Julius Baer title sponsor
As the Founding Global Partner of Formula E, Julius Baer was instrumental in bringing electric racing to the streets of Zurich for the very first time this summer. “After this year’s historic Formula E debut in Switzerland, Julius Baer is excited about the decision to bring the series to Berne in 2019,” says Gian A. Rossi, Head Switzerland at Julius Baer. “We are convinced that the Swiss capital is an ideal host for an electric street race, highlighting Switzerland’s strength as a leading research center and hotspot for innovation. We are proud to be the founding Global Partner of Formula E and the title sponsor of the Swiss E-Prix 2019, and are looking forward to an unforgettable Swiss E-Prix in Bern.”
