Julius Baer today announces a unique project to attract tech talent. It is the first bank to present itself via its own video game on Roblox – the world’s most widely played video game platform – in an effort to attract future specialists to its technology teams.

Zurich, 11 April 2022 – Bank Julius Baer is embracing new and innovative approaches to recruitment in its efforts to attract tech talent. Its most recent project saw the launch of the customised video game ’Be Bär Challenge’ on the online gaming platform Roblox. This makes it the first bank to target current and future tech talent via this popular digital environment.

For Julius Baer, digital transformation is of key strategic importance at all levels of the organisation. In particular, its wealth management clients have the highest of expectations when it comes to their experience with the Bank, both in person and online. Accordingly, Julius Baer invests heavily in technology and also the professionals behind it.

Together with E-Sports and gaming experts, Julius Baer designed the video game ’Be Bär Challenge’ to create an inspiring location in the Roblox virtual universe. Considered the world’s leading metaverse, Roblox is a global gaming platform that was founded in 2004 and now has 55 million daily active users. Its ever-growing number of video games are available on devices such as PC, Xbox and cell phones and there are currently 9.6 million developers on the platform.

The Julius Baer Challenge, available to play since 11 April 2022, requires the users to employ logical and analytical thinking, creativity and speed in an entertaining gaming experience. In this 3D world of Julius Baer, players create their own avatar that enters different rooms in the Bank’s virtual headquarters in Zurich. In the Challenge there are four different levels, small prizes can be won and a showroom informs players about employment opportunities and benefits at Julius Baer, including the bank’s entrepreneurial environment, small teams that enable agile working and cutting-edge technology.

We wanted to bring a ’Super Mario’ aspect to the banking world. Gaming requires curiosity, agility and a drive to advance to the next level. These skills are highly sought after in a banking environment.”
